Pill Ingredient Could Prevent Brain Damage After Head Injury (May 5)

A common component of the contraceptive pill (progesterone) could improve the neurologic outcome for patients with severe head injuries, according to a study published in BioMed Central’s open access journal Critical Care.

Researchers Uncover Mechanism of Action of Antibiotic Able to Reduce Neuronal Cell Death in Brain (May 19)

Virginia Commonwealth University researchers have discovered how an antibiotic works to modulate the activity of a neurotransmitter that regulates brain functions, which eventually could lead to therapies to treat brain injury.

New MRI Technique Developed at UT Southwestern Detects Subtle but Serious Brain Injury (May 26)

A new technique for analyzing magnetic resonance imaging data, developed by researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center, can reveal serious brain injury missed by current tests and help predict a patient’s degree of recovery.
