Researchers have for the first time identified a protein that is key to the regeneration of damage in the peripheral nervous system and which could with further research lead to methods of repairing damage in the central nervous system.

Adult Stem Cells Finding Provides Foundation for Brain Injury Cure (Aug 4)

Adult stem cells originate in a different part of the brain than is commonly believed, and with proper stimulation they can produce new brain cells to replace those lost to disease or injury.

Following Traumatic Brain Injury, Balanced Nutrition Saves Lives (Aug 11)

Researchers say that following TBI, patients should be given nutritional supplementation through a gastric feeding tube as soon as possible, which they say can improve their chances of survival by as much as four-fold.

Trigger For Brain Plasticity Identified: Signal Comes, Surprisingly, From Outside The Brain (Aug 18)

Researchers have long sought a factor that can trigger the brain's ability to learn – and perhaps recapture the "sponge-like" quality of childhood. Neuroscientists report that they've identified such a factor, a protein called Otx 2.

Researchers Create Molecule That Nudges Nerve Stem Cells to Mature (Aug 25)

Inspired by a chance discovery during another experiment, researchers have created a small molecule that stimulates nerve stem cells to begin maturing into nerve cells in culture.
