Blood-flow Detector Software Show Promise In Preventing Brain Damage (Sep 3)
Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and Cambridge University in England have designed an automated means of continuously tracking potentially dangerous changes in blood flow to the brain in real time, a system that shows promise for preventing brain damage and death in children with head injuries.

Reorganization Of Brain Area For Vision: May Yield New Treatments For Brain Injury (Sep 10)
New evidence from a patient shows that the area of the brain that processes visual inputs can reorganize after an injury caused by stroke. Scientists found that a brain region that had stopped receiving signals from the eyes because of a stroke began responding to signals formerly processed in adjacent brain areas.

Fluids Given To Brain Injury Patients Impact Survival Rates (Sep 17)
The results of the SAFE-TBI Study, published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, confirm that the choice of resuscitation fluids affects the chances of patients with brain injury surviving.

Milestone In The Regeneration Of Brain Cells (Sep 24)
Researchers have achieved an additional step for the potential replacement of damaged brain cells after injury or disease: functional nerve cells can be generated from astroglia, a type of supportive cells in the brain by means of special regulator proteins.
