Pediatric/Adolescent Brain Injury Program

Since 1984, Centre for Neuro Skills ® (CNS) has been providing a seamless continuum of post-acute rehabilitative care for pediatric and adolescent clients. The CNS bias for action is to return the client with a brain injury to the highest level of independence possible. A comprehensive treatment approach puts the client and family at the center of a team of interdisciplinary rehabilitation professionals who develop individualized programs with an emphasis on developmental skills, regaining independence, and reintegration into the educational setting. For each child or adolescent an individual program is structured and clinical goals created.

Case managers, therapists, nurses, and physicians, provide rehabilitation services. These services are provided in an inpatient, day treatment or outpatient setting. The therapies and services provided are: Physical Therapy, Case Management, Vision Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Educational Therapy, Sensory Integration, Behavioral Intervention, Bilingual Translation, Speech-Language Pathology, Aquatic Therapy, Secondary Education Preparation, Nutrition Services, Coordination of School Re-entry, Swallowing and Feeding Therapy, Rehabilitation Nursing Services, Community Support Services, Pharmacological Consultation, Family Education/Counseling, Neuropsychological Consultation, Home Evaluation, Counseling/Psychological Services, Long-Term Follow-Up Support.

In children and adolescents, the ability to return to school is critical. Following a brain injury, the capability for educational learning and the development of milestone skills becomes a challenge. Our Classroom setting with a curriculum base offers a unique opportunity to enhance learning and success. At CNS, an Educational Therapist works with the child and the educational team to create an Individualized Education Program. Each student can obtain school credit through homebound instruction held at CNS through Carrollton Farmers Branch Independent School District or assistance is available for coordinating services through a school district of your choice.
