NEW RESEARCH ARTICLES ON THE WEB SITE

Brain Trauma May Increase the Risk of Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease. This is the first study to use autopsy brain material to
study the connection between traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's and confirms
similar findings gained from clinical studies.

Researchers Study Brain Cells' Attempts to Heal Themselves After Severe Injuries

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania will study brain injuries at a
level of detail never before attained. The team will detect the genes and
proteins altered in single neurons in the brain to better understand the cells'
responses to contusions and other forms of brain trauma which could lead
researchers to new medications and treatments for victims of brain injuries.

A Population-Based Study Calculates Potential Brain Injuries

population-based analyses on which to base prevention initiatives. In this
study, William Pickett and colleagues studied the blunt head traumas seen at
emergency departments in Kingston in 1998 to calculate the rates of potential
brain injury and to describe the various causes of these injuries.

the nation begin their pre-season practices, sports medicine experts from across
the country are gathered in Pittsburgh to learn the latest on how to manage a
potentially serious injury that will affect about 10 percent of those football
players -- concussion.
